Let’s get to Turkey Trotting

We can hardly believe it! Where did the Fall go?  How are we at Thanksgiving already?  It seems like just yesterday we were rocking and running at the Perfect 10. Yet, the sooner we get through winter, the sooner we get to the spring, and with the spring comes more and more races.  We can hardly wait!

In the meantime, this is a great time of year for just some good old FUN races, and what better place to start than with Thanksgiving.  For many people, Turkey Day is a time to watch the parade, be thankful, spend time with family, and eat turkey too.   While runners are involved in many of these time-honored traditions, they also have their own special way of adding to Thanksgiving.  That is right, you guessed it, we are talking about the Turkey Trot – a race usually between a 5k and a 10k in mileage that is run early Thanksgiving morning before we all get down to cooking and eating.  Sure this can vary a bit, some Trots are longer or shorter than others and some are the week before or the week after Thanksgiving.

Regardless of the length of the race or when it is, the Turkey Trot is always tons and tons of fun.   Runners get into the spirit by dressing like pilgrims or turkeys and everyone has a complete blast! It does not get much better. Except until you get to go home, be with your family, and eat just a little more turkey because you just trotted all morning!  If you have not signed up for a Turkey Trot yet, look around there are some great ones out there and it is the perfect way to start your Thanksgiving.
