My Favorite Race Distance

I have a confession to make. I have a favorite race distance. I think every runner has a favorite distance they prefer to race. A distance they feel most comfortable running, feel great doing it and would go out and run everyday if they could!

For me, it’s an easy choice - my favorite race distance is 10 miles. {And no, I promise I’m not just saying that because the Perfect 10 race is coming up!} It’s a mileage I could run over and over and over again, especially in a race!

I think my love for 10 miles really began during my first big race – which just happened to be a 10 mile run. This was the time in my life where I really started to get hooked on running. For this race, I was able to easily put together a training plan for myself and as a newbie runner this was a big deal for me.

I was dedicated, I trained, I was prepared and I ran a 8:37/pace which I was very excited about. I even got a pretty sweet medal {my first race medal!}, which began my love for race bling.

After running my first 10 miler, I went on to sign up for my first half marathon, which happened to be that same month! And then I signed up for another half marathon two months later, and then another…it was pretty much the jumping off point for what would eventually become a path to my first marathon

I love the 10 mile race distance because it challenges me, but it’s much less of a commitment  {for me} than the full 26.2.  It’s a distance I can really work on improving my PR with speed work, cross training and just enjoying the run!
