My Top 5 Travel Tips for Runners

Whether you are getting ready to go away on a fun tropical vacation or just a weekend getaway planned later this summer it’s always a good idea to be prepared with a few different ways to keep your training on track.

Here are a few of my favorite ways to stay running while you are on the road:

1.     Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! – Whether you are changing time zones or just plan on spending some extra time soaking up the sun, it’s so important to keep drinking that H20 when you are on the go. Always pack an empty water bottle to refill in your luggage!

2.     Do Research & Explore – I am guilty of easily getting bored with my same old running routes. For me, travelling is the perfect excuse to get lost in my run while at the same time exploring a new city. Do a little research {try MapMyRun or Run the Planet} and enjoy the scenery!

3.     Find a Local Race – Once I plan a trip, I love scouting out local running shops to see if there are any races happening while I am there. It’s so fun to participate in a race in a new city, plus sometimes its great to run with a big group {plus it may be a chance to add a race medal to your collection!}

4.     Mix It Up! – Vacation is the perfect time to change up your regular running routine and add some fun cross training to the mix. Hiking, biking, swimming or kayaking are all great ways to get your sweat on, keep up your endurance and work out some different muscles. Don’t be afraid to try something new!

5.     Don’t Overdo It – While it’s important to keep your running routine in check, it’s also important to keep in mind that you are on vacation! Relax a bit, wake up & enjoy a run on the beach or swim a few laps in the pool, but keep your workout short on busy days.

No matter how you keep up with your training plan while you are on the go, don’t forget to stay safe and most importantly, enjoy the run!
